The Ottawa County Genealogical Society will meet, on Monday, March 18th, at the First National Bank Community Room, 1749 North Main Street, Miami, Oklahoma. The meetings are always open to the public. Attendees this month will hear about the free Genealogy Workshop OCGS hosted at the Quapaw Tribal Library Saturday March 16th, and other business progress throughout the meeting.

Refreshments will be served at 6:00 p.m., with Ida McMillan, Miami, serving as hostess. Assistance will be available for those who may need research help. The actual meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by the program. The March program will be an interactive senior outreach and card workshop. This will be led by award winning OCGS member, Shirley Ratliff. By unanimous consensus current OCGS membership felt the goal of reconnecting with inactive researchers made this an indispensable use of this early spring program.

Shirley currently serves OCGS as Pedigree Chairman, recently an officer and is a long time member of the society. Her approach to paper craft includes stamping, using stickers and re-purposing paper. She also loves to incorporate cut outs from old cards and the like. Stamped cards are something she had done for the enjoyment of family and friends for nearly a decade. Shirley is very active in the Rebels Car Club of Miami, her church and with other interests. In addition to her award winning scrapbooks, she earned first place in historical media with her “family hankies” shadow box at the Tulsa County Genealogical Society contest in October, 2006.
